urban infill
The site: David Praporgeascu street, Bucharest. Context: two members team school project, 2014
Challenge: The purpose of this project is to raise the question of the suitability of the contemporary architectural insertions for the historic urban areas.
Proposal: In order to establish the limits to which a new structure in an old area will have to adjust to, an historical and architectural analysis is needed. In this case, the criteria choosen for analysis draw from the characteristics of the XIXth century architecture in Bucharest and include :
percentage of land area occupied, heights, typology and relationship between buildings in the same property and between neigbouring buldings, (blind walls, facades), green spaces (private and public), legal status of the property, roof types, year of construction, styles and decorations.
The proposed project is an art and craft studio for children. The choice is motivated by the the existence of a school and a nursery in the neigbourhood. The small urban infill respects the historical surrounding and fits into the area’s particular character.
